hommecoming: creative alchemy

(Roots of) Creative Alchemy was a heart-centered gathering for BIPOC creatives and spiritually curious folks, hosted by @homme_coming at 736 Studios in Downtown LA. It was an evening of ritual, storytelling, sound, and deep connection — a space to remember where we come from and imagine where we’re headed.

I had the honor of filming and editing this recap, and my intention was to capture the softness, the power, and the magic that unfolded. From ancestral reflections to shared laughter, every moment felt sacred. The piece weaves together audio from the event, ambient movement, and grounding visuals to evoke the softness and depth of coming home to oneself. So grateful to have witnessed this kind of healing and creativity all in one space.

day + night series

It all started with my brothers and me planning a trip to our homeland, Vietnam. I had just gotten my hands on a new sony a7s camera, and I figured, why not capture our journey for future memories? Around the same time, Frank Ocean's 'Blonde' album, especially the track 'Nights,' was on repeat for me. The distinct switch-up in that song sparked an idea – to create a series highlighting how each place around the world takes on a unique vibe once the sun sets. So, I committed to showcasing the different atmospheres of places I’ve been, emphasizing the contrast between night and day.

Los Seen is my love letter to LA — an archive preserving the people, places, and memories that shaped life in Chinatown, Lincoln Heights, and beyond.

My childhood feels like a fleeting dream, one that I could only revisit by driving through East and Central LA, reliving those moments over and over. From the car, I would point out what I did as a kid, sharing those memories with my boyfriend. For me and many others, the physical place might be elusive, but the experience of growing up in LA was profoundly special. From riding the Dash across town, to getting piercings at Angie’s, to gathering at Alpine park, these vibrant memories have shaped who I am today.

As an adult, each visit to LA reveals a landscape transformed by change, leaving behind echoes of a past that now seems almost imaginary. Essential needs like grocery stores and hospitals, once vital parts of our community, have been replaced by empty buildings or businesses that cater to visitors. The corner markets where families shopped, the local clinics where we received care, and the familiar faces that once animated our streets are disappearing. Gentrification has swept through, forcing many longtime residents to move out and replacing familiar scenes with new developments driven by capitalism than community benefit.

Los Seen is my tribute to LA and its beloved residents, especially those who have been displaced. This project is dedicated to preserving our shared history and honoring the diverse life experiences that define our neighborhoods. Through our archives, I hope to weave a narrative that bridges past, present, and future, make the fleeting moments we had in LA eternal. I dream of a future where community bonds are strengthened, and the legacies of those who came before us are firmly established. While LA may have changed and many of us may no longer have a physical home there, our connection to it remains steadfast and unwavering. There are incredible organizations like Chinatown Community for Equitable Development, Reclaiming Homes, and People’s City Council doing the groundwork but it truly takes a village. I encourage you to get informed, lend your support, and get involved in your own way.
